How it works

Pellets per rabbit per day = grams per kg of body weight x body weight; the same for leafy greens. Hay is per rabbit per day. Per group per day = per rabbit x rabbits; per month = per day x 30.44 days (365.25 / 12). Bags per month = amount per month / bag weight, shown exact and rounded up to what you buy. One bag lasts = bag weight / amount per group per day. Cost per month = bags per month (exact) x the price of a bag, plus greens per month x their price per weight; the total adds the lines that have a price and says which ones do not.

Hay is unlimited for a rabbit: it is most of the diet and keeps the teeth and gut working. The hay figure is what one rabbit typically gets through, for the shopping list, not a ration to measure out. Young rabbits get more pellets per kg than adults; pick the age and the starting figure changes with it. With the US starting values, an adult rabbit gets 2.4 oz of pellets a day and a young one of the same weight 4.9 oz.

Grams from RSPCA South Australia, Rabbit Feeding Procedure PRO-RAB-003 v1.0 (Oct 2020), which equates 1/5 of a cup of pellets to 50 g: 1/4 cup = 62.5 g per 5 lb (2.27 kg) = 27.6 g per kg.
